Recover Data from water/fire damaged hard drives

Time is of the essence; we need to begin the recovery process before any debris that has penetrated the case has time to dry and adhere to the media platters; most hard drives have multiple platter media stacks and trying to remove any contamination is compounded after the drive has completely dried. Circuitry corrosion can also be an issue, especially in solid state drives.

If you follow the steps below; no more/no less, in a timely manner, there is a very good possibility that we can recover all of your valuable data with our Charlotte hard drive water damage repair services.

  1. Do not attempt to power on!!

Water from flood and or fire residue is always contaminated with debris and particulate residue; water can & will penetrate the housing.

Powering up a hard drive, even if it looks dry (after a water event) can cause irreparable damage to the read/write heads and/or media stack.
  2. Use a clean, lint free cloth; wipe any excess moisture from the drive & board.

Rust/corrosion is the biggest concern here. Just lightly wipe the water from the drive & immediately place into a sealed zip lock baggie (no additional moisture in…none out.)
  3. Do not attempt to air dry hard drive or use hair dryer or other heat source.
  4. Never attempt to open the hard drive housing.
  5. Immediately seal the hard drive in a zip lock baggie making sure that it seals tightly!!
  6. Package the drive securely (at least 2” of padding) and ship in a box, not envelope
  7. Click here for shipping address & submittal form.
  8. Ship via overnight carrier & retain tracking number for delivery verification.
