The Hidden Risks in Data Recovery

When your data is at stake, the cheapest quote can be the most expensive mistake. We see it all the time—drives that were fully recoverable until another lab made them unrecoverable.

What to Watch Out For

  • Low initial quote → Price skyrockets once they have your drive
  • High-pressure tactics → Accept now or risk further damage
  • Tampering without cause → Drives opened unnecessarily

Real Case: We quoted $950 for a recent data recovery project and the customer wanted to “Think about it” which was fine. We informed him that the data should be recoverable based upon our tests if the hard drive remained in the same condition, it would be recoverable 6 months, a year or even 2 years down the road, time was not an issue for the recovery.

Another company gave him a $500 quote, so he sent his drive to them and, when they received his drive, they sent him a new quote for $1900. He declined the service and had the drive returned. When he brought the drive back to us with a desire for us to perform the recovery, we discovered that the other company had opened his drive and damaged it beyond repair, making his data un-recoverable. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon scenario, and it happens far too often.

How to Protect Yourself

  • Do not allow yourself to be pressured
  • Read real reviews – VERY IMPORTANT! Dig down and be sure you are getting real reviews.
  • Know what happens if they can’t recover your data or if the price is too high.

The Truth Behind “Cheap” Recovery

  • Initial Quote: $300–$500
  • Actual Cost: Often $3000 – $4000
  • Hidden Risks: Permanent data loss, no recourse

Choose Wisely

Not all recovery labs are the same. There are other reputable labs out there & we will happily give you a referral, but there are also some very bad ones out there. Our trained experts use professional tools and secure environments. We stand behind our work with transparent pricing—because your data is worth doing right the first time.

When we give you a price, it is all-inclusive, never to change price if the drive has not been tampered with since the original quote was given.
